KLF frontman Bill Drummond comes to Falmouth

Dates: 02/15/2013 Dates: 02/15/2013 Location: The Performance Centre, Falmouth University, Penryn Campus, Penryn TR10 9EZ

On Friday, Bill Drummond the former KLF frontman will lead a Performance Lecture, The17 at The Performance Centre, Falmouth University.

Questioning our ideas and attitude to music, the Scottish artist brings his choir project The17 to Falmouth. ‘The17 is a choir. Their music has no history, follows no traditions, recognizes no contemporaries.
 The17 has many voices.
They use no libretto, lyrics or words; no time signatures, rhythm or beats; and have no knowledge of melody, counterpoint or harmony. The17 struggle with the dark and respond to the light’ (www.the17.org)

The17 has nearly completed a Coast to Coast world tour which began in 2008. The tour concludes in April 2013 after five years, during which time performances will have taken place in 20 different locations throughout the British Isles. Each of the performances consist of different scores, and each performance will be twinned with a performance of the same score somewhere else in the world.

The performance lecture will draw upon a performance led by Bill Drummond and performed byThe17 of Score 360 entitled ‘Before Every Meal’ onboard a trawler somewhere in Cornwall. The performance on the trawler is not open to members of the public because the artist has stipulated that it is only for members of the trawler’s crew.

About University College Falmouth
Originally founded as Falmouth School of Art in 1902, University College Falmouth (UCF) has over its 110 year history grown from a small art school of less than 200 students to a multi-arts University College with around 3,600 full time students studying art, design, media, performance and writing programmes.

The University College is situated on two main campuses: Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn. The historic Woodlane is home to Fine Art, Graphics, Illustration, Fashion and Foundation Studies. In 1999 UCF acquired a large site at Tremough, Penryn which has been developed as a joint venture with University of Exeter. Over £100 million of investment, supported by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Convergence, the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFC) funding, has produced an exemplary campus with facilities for Photography, Media and Design, along with two thirds of all UCF’s students now housed there.

In 2008 UCF merged with Dartington College of Arts, who relocated to a £19 million purpose built Performance Centre at Tremough in October 2010. In 2012 two further new facilities open at Tremough - The Academy for Innovation & Research (AIR) and The Exchange, a major extension to the library to provide new types of learning space and facilities.
