Founded in spring 2016, East Cornwall Youth String Orchestra has become an important part of the educational landscape in the region, offering high quality string training in an atmosphere that is supportive and encouraging, yet values attention to detail.
Highlights have included performing John Maxwell Geddes work 'Soundposts' at the Music for Youth National Festival in Birmingham Town Hall, alongside members of Penzance Youth String Orchestra, Penzance Junior Strings, Truro Youth String Orchestra and Truro College String Ensemble, and performing two Primary Proms concerts in Liskeard Town Hall for primary schools in summer 2019. ECYSO have been guests four years running at the Dante String Quartet summer festival.
ECYSO forms part of a pathway from first access to the highest levels of youth music making. It forms a second level of county ensemble experience in East Cornwall, following on from Caradon Strings and Triggshire Strings. More experienced ECYSO members are often also members of Cornwall Youth Orchestra and some go on to study music at university or are enjoying active musical lives while studying a variety of subjects at university. Their ECYSO experiences have had a significant impact on their musical ability, confidence and enjoyment.
