The John Turville Trio are one of the leading contemporary jazz trios in the UK, comprised of three of the busiest musicians on the London scene. Their new album “Conception” has the same unique sound as their first, but with a broader scope, from contemporary classical music, tango and poignant jazz ballads to reinterpreted versions of George Shearing and a striking cover of Radiohead’s ‘Scatterbrain’.
In 2011 John was awarded ‘Best Album’ for Midas in the Parliamentary Awards. In 2010 he received both the inaugural London Jazz Award for ‘Best Instrumentalist’ and the Promoters Award, and has since toured with the trio throughout the UK and Europe, including at the Barbican (for theLondon Jazz Festival), Ronnie Scotts, Pizza Express, The 606 Club, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Scarborough and Manchester Jazz Festivals.

“a highly impressive statement from the versatile young pianist John Turville… this well balanced programme covers a number of styles and bases and the interplay between the three principal musicians is consistently interesting. Hill’s huge tone and Reynolds’ colourful drumming complement the leader well, his playing a good balance between lyricism and muscularity […] This album deserves to establish Turville as a major new figure on the British jazz scene.”

“Midas is high-end piano trio jazz, beautifully recorded […] resonating with the work of Keith Jarrett and John Taylor without denying the group’s considerable individuality […] who wheel and curve through the shape shifting music as one”
(Chris May, All About Jazz)
“John Turville is a young conservatoire-trained British pianist with very broadly-based resources […] his adventurousness with harmony and the
always lyrical yet narratively swerving designs of his improvisations often recall UK piano giant John Taylor’s playing”
