School Support

Cornwall Music Education Hub offer of support for Schools

Support for music in the classroom

Following Ofsted’s report about music education which was published last November (Music in Schools – What Hubs Must Do), every Hub have been asked to write a plan which sets out how it will engage and support ALL schools in its area over the next two years.

Representatives of the Cornwall Music Education Hub will be meeting with schools to discuss how the Hub can help to support music education in their settings. These conversations will be supported by twilight training sessions, such as the VOICES vocal meetings and also forthcoming sessions around Assessment.

If you would like to discuss how your school can engage with the Hub, please contact Tanya Moore – [email protected]

We have put together a self-evaluation document to help schools with reviewing their own music provision.

The aim of the First Access programme is to introduce students in Key Stages 1-3 to the experience of learning an instrument through whole class teaching. The programme is fully funded for a term and consists of:

  • An initial Planning session to review music provision in the school
  • 10 x 45 minute instrumental lessons on a weekly basis on the same instrument
  • A final Review meeting to discuss future development of musical learning and next steps

Schools provide their own instruments or the Hub can loan a class set at a subsided rate.
