Seckou Keita the internationally renowned kora player and his new 7 piece band will perform here at The Performance Centre this Friday.
Respecting a musical tradition that stretches back to the 13th Century and the Mandinka Empire of West Africa, Seckou is an established contemporary master of the kora, the 21 stringed African harp. Seckou has been performing since the age of seven, his career has seen him tour across the globe, performing more than 400 concerts in 30 countries. He has supported luminaries Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour, and played the prestigious Womad and Glastonbury festivals. Seckou resides in the UK and besides his solo career is also a member of Bath based global fusion pioneers, Baka Beyond.
In 2011 Seckou joined the Astar Artes family, setting off to work on a new musical chapter resulting in the album, ‘Miro’, released September 2012.
