South West Music School Applications for 2014/15 are now open!

South West Music School is a music charity working with gifted and talented musicians in the South West. It is intended to compliment current schooling and musical activity and work alongside current teachers. There is no set standard that students must obtain, instead we look for talent and potential in their playing and musicality. We accept any instrument (including voice) and any genre and have means tested bursaries available to assist with fees which are funded by the Department for Education Music and Dance Scheme.

We are looking for young performing musicians between the ages of 8-16 and young composers between the ages of 13 – 17 with a sense of considerable authority and clarity; stylish and who are musically informed. Candidates must have high levels of musicianship, talent and/or potential and be a committed individual.

For Performing Musicians we have 30 places available on the Feeder Scheme. Successful instrumentalists and vocalists will spend a year on the Feeder Scheme Programme before re-auditioning the following year to fill places of graduating students on the Core Programme.

The Feeder Scheme consists of 6 workshops across the year looking at various musical styles and genres working with some of the country’s top tutors.

The Core Programme is a three stream programme consisting of individual tuition, mentoring and residentials three times a year as well as instrument specific workshops, masterclasses and weekends.

For Composers we have capacity for 10 places on the Composers Programme. Successful composers will join the Composer Programme and be provided with an individual Mentor/Tutor as well as attend three residentials across the year.

We run a two-stage application process, which will be informal and friendly. The first is an application form and recording and the second is an audition day (interviews for composers).
