vs1_vs2_Vocal development programme_v2I am writing to invite you, as Music Coordinator and/or Singing leader in your school or setting, to come along to our new free Twilight Vocal Support Meetings as part of the CMEH Vocal Strategy.
We would particularly like to encourage any of you who have very little vocal delivery experience or who would like the support and experience of other colleagues.
The twilight sessions will be held in a relaxed supportive environment, once each term, starting in February 2014, in your local area across Cornwall and led by experienced singing leaders and teachers.
We hope to discuss vocal developments taking place in Cornwall, share ideas and new materials, plus let you know about any new ventures, events coming up, and new county choral opportunities.
There will be an element of low-key training as well as discussion in the sessions plus general sharing of information and ideas. There will be something for all!
Teachers and Singing Leaders have spoken about how useful such gatherings have been in the past, and we are hoping that this will be of interest to not only to yourself, but also your school or setting. We know how important communication is to all practitioners and so we really hope that you will find these sessions useful.
All Support meetings will take place at the end of the school day, for approximately 1.5 hours and we will provide tea and biscuits, always a welcome treat at the end of the day!
The Ofsted report on ‘Music in Schools – what Hubs must do’ includes this section:
Schools should:
- make better use of the provision and funding provided through hubs as part of the National Plan for Music Education
- expect music hubs to provide them with expert advice and challenge – the challenging conversation – and take action on this
- evaluate their musical provision more accurately, especially teaching and the curriculum, and seek training and advice as needed.
The Importance of Music – a national plan for music education:
1. Singing can improve pupils’ learning, confidence, health and social development. It has the power to change lives and build stronger communities5. This is why we are asking hubs to develop singing strategies, in and beyond schools, to ensure that every child sings regularly and that choirs are available. Such strategies will widen singing opportunities for all pupils, drive up quality and give routes for progression such as access to chorister programmes, area/county choirs and the National Youth Choir.
Please get in touch if you have any queries and we look forward to meeting you all soon,
Angela Renshaw
