BBC @ the Ten Pieces Proms

Watch highlights from the Ten Pieces Prom which adapted the magical world of the Ten Pieces film into an exciting and immersive concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
The creativity of the nation's children took centre stage, with a lucky few performing their own dances and compositions live.

New - Ten Pieces II - for Secondary Schools
Phase 2 of the Ten Pieces project will be working with Secondary schools. A new list of 10 pieces was announced on 20th May 2015 as follows:
- J. S. Bach, orch. Stokowski - Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565
- Bernstein - 'Mambo' from 'West Side Story'
- Bizet - 'Habanera' and 'Toreador Song' from 'Carmen'
- Anna Clyne - Night Ferry
- Haydn - Trumpet Concerto (3rd movement) Soloist: Alison Balsom
- Gabriel Prokofiev - Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra (5th movement)
- Shostakovich - Symphony No. 10 (2nd movement)
- Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending Soloist: Nicola Benedetti
- Verdi - 'Dies Irae' from 'Requiem'
- Wagner - 'Ride of the Valkyries' from 'Die Walküre'
Free Cinema Screenings for Secondary Schools
To launch the next phase of the project, the BBC will again be screening an especially commissioned film to introduce these works. The BBC are organising free cinema screenings across the country for the week beginning 5th October 2015. Places at the screenings can be booking via the BBC Website - www.bbctenpieces.co.uk

The BBC will be offering free cinema screenings of the new secondary film in Penzance, Newquay, Truro and St Austell in October 2015. Please visit the Ten Pieces website to book places for your students
Performances
In Cornwall, we have been working with schools and the Hub ensembles to not only learn about the Ten Pieces but also to compose their own creative responses to these pieces of music. Many of the these were performed at the CMEH Ten Pieces Festival on 26th and 27th June at Heartlands.
In 2016, the Cornwall Youth Orchestra will perform a selection of the pieces at their annual Easter concert in Truro Cathedral on Friday 11th March
About BBC Ten Pieces - Primary
The first phase of the Ten Pieces Project was aimed at primary schools. Led by BBC Learning and the BBC Performing Groups, the project focuses on classical music and creativity. Support for primary schools
Nearly half the primary schools in the country are already involved in this ground-breaking initiative. Support for Ten Pieces Primary will be continuing throughout the next academic year, and new schools are encouraged to join in. All the Key Stage 2/2nd Level music resources will remain available on the website, and the BBC will continue to add new resources so you can start planning for next year. There will also be audio and video materials for younger children that will enable teachers to extend the project
to Early Years. FREE DVDs of the Ten Pieces film are still available for primary schools, and DVDs for secondary schools will be available from October. Visit the BBC Ten Pieces website for further information.
