FREE vocal composition and performance workshop with Ben Parry and the National Youth Choirs' Fellowship Octet

Friday 16th October 2015, 4.30pm-6.30pm and Saturday 17th October 2015, 10.00am-4.00pm

Truro High School, TR1 2HU

This workshop is suitable for any BTEC, GCSE or A Level students who are considering including song writing to their portfolio of work or who are interested in the performance aspects of the workshops. Students are not expected to submit a composition to attend this event which is also open to any teachers and school staff.

This is an opportunity for you to develop your own work on vocal compositions for BTEC, GCSE or A level or for personal vocal development, receive feedback and advice from composer Ben Parry and also hear your work performed by some of the country’s finest young singers.

Funded by Cornwall Music Education Hub, the weekend is free and will be led by Ben Parry, composer and Director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The National Youth Choir's Fellowship Octet will be present during the weekend to perform a selection of the compositions.

We have a limited number of places for this weekend. All applications as observers, as well as submission of compositions, to be made before Monday 28th September 2015

About Ben Parry

Ben Parry has a successful international career as a composer, conductor, arranger, singer and producer in both classical and light music fields. He is Music Director of Aldeburgh Voices, the resident choir of the Aldeburgh Festival, and co-Director of London Voices, with whom he has worked on the soundtracks of major films such as The Golden Compass, Kung Fu Panda, Harry Potter and The Iron Lady. Director of the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London until July 2013, he also works extensively with young musicians as a director of the Eton Choral Courses. He is also Assistant Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge. Ben became Director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain in October 2012.

About the Fellowship Octet

Following a rigorous audition process examining solo performance skills, sight-reading, ensemble work, improvisation and teaching ability, the National Youth Chamber Choir is proud to present its first eight Fellowship holders, who will form the core of the 24-strong ensemble.

The octet hail from towns across the UK and are some of the best young singers in the world. From September 2015 they will be perfecting their abilities on a unique year-long development programme encompassing performance, pedagogy and leadership that aims to produce a new generation of choral leaders.
