Music Coordinator and/or Singing Leaders in schools or setting are invited to come along to our free Twilight Vocal Support Meetings as part of the CMEH Vocal Strategy.
We would particularly like to encourage any music co-ordinators who have very little vocal delivery experience or who would like the support and experience of other colleagues.
Teachers and Singing Leaders have spoken about how useful such gatherings have been in the past, and we are hoping that this will be of interest to not only to yourself, but also your school or setting.

Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble - Cream Tea Concert

The Cornwall Music Education Hub's county brass ensemble, CYBE, will be performing at Carharrack Methodist Chapel as part of the chapel's bicentenary celebrations
The Carharrack 200 Festival Week will take place from Monday 26th October to Sunday 1st November 2015. There will be special events each day including the opening night of the Festival when there will be a Musical Evening with Carharrack Voices. During the week there will be dance and musical items from RedYouth, Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble and a concert by the Carharrack & St Day Youth Band and St Day & Carharrack Community School Choir.

FREE vocal composition and performance workshop with Ben Parry and the National Youth Choirs' Fellowship Octet
Friday 16th October 2015, 4.30pm-6.30pm and Saturday 17th October 2015, 10.00am-4.00pm
Truro High School, TR1 2HU
This workshop is suitable for any BTEC, GCSE or A Level students who are considering including song writing to their portfolio of work or who are interested in the performance aspects of the workshops. Students are not expected to submit a composition to attend this event which is also open to any teachers and school staff.
This is an opportunity for you to develop your own work on vocal compositions for BTEC, GCSE or A level or for personal vocal development, receive feedback and advice from composer Ben Parry and also hear your work performed by some of the country’s finest young singers.
Funded by Cornwall Music Education Hub, the weekend is free and will be led by Ben Parry, composer and Director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The National Youth Choir's Fellowship Octet will be present during the weekend to perform a selection of the compositions.
We have a limited number of places for this weekend. All applications as observers, as well as submission of compositions, to be made before Monday 28th September 2015

About Ben Parry

Ben Parry has a successful international career as a composer, conductor, arranger, singer and producer in both classical and light music fields. He is Music Director of Aldeburgh Voices, the resident choir of the Aldeburgh Festival, and co-Director of London Voices, with whom he has worked on the soundtracks of major films such as The Golden Compass, Kung Fu Panda, Harry Potter and The Iron Lady. Director of the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London until July 2013, he also works extensively with young musicians as a director of the Eton Choral Courses. He is also Assistant Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge. Ben became Director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain in October 2012.
About the Fellowship Octet
Following a rigorous audition process examining solo performance skills, sight-reading, ensemble work, improvisation and teaching ability, the National Youth Chamber Choir is proud to present its first eight Fellowship holders, who will form the core of the 24-strong ensemble.

The octet hail from towns across the UK and are some of the best young singers in the world. From September 2015 they will be perfecting their abilities on a unique year-long development programme encompassing performance, pedagogy and leadership that aims to produce a new generation of choral leaders.

Every Autumn the Cornwall Music Education Hub offers a local conference for both school music staff and local community practitioners. This one day event not only provides an excellent networking opportunity, but also has a programme of inspiring speakers and practical workshops which enable practitioners to develop and refresh their skills.

The Cornwall Music Education Hub post-16 music education event
The Hub will be holding its second conference for post-16 music students on Friday 25th September at Falmouth University, 10am – 3pm. This one day event is suitable for anyone studying Music or Music Technology at A level or BTEC (level 3) and aims to fire up students’ passion and interest in music as they embark on the next level of their studies.
In addition to the keynote speaker and Q&A wrap-up, there will be a series of curriculum-specific seminars suitable for all students from all syllabuses/courses:

Ableton – a practical guide
Live Sound (by leading sound engineer Simon Honywill)
Song writing/Production
Performance (A level)
Composition – developing musical ideas
Understanding music – the classical period (AS)
Understanding music – the twentieth century (A2)
Music for TV/Film

About the workshop leader - Esther Jones
Esther Jones is a professional conductor specialising in choral music and music education. She is a formermember of NYCGB and is now Deputy Music Director, overseeing the Junior Choirs.Esther after graduating from Oxford University she studied choral conducting with Patrick Russill and PaulBrough at the Royal Academy of Music, winning several prizes and gaining a distinction for her MMus. In2007 she became the first Open Academy Fellow; she is now a part-time tutor at the Royal Academy ofMusic as the choral conducting specialist for the LRAM teaching diploma and teaches the undergraduateVocal Ensemble.Come and Sing Flyer
