Venue – Truro prep school
Date - Monday 9th Nov 4.3-6.30pm and Tues 10th November from 10-4.00pm
(Sign up is for the two sessions which will contain different information)
Empowering choral leaders
Learn about what’s going on inside the singing voice and singers’ brains, and how it can empower you as a choral leader, as Stuart Barr makes a return visit to expand on last year’s session. Starting with an easy-to-understand technical guide as to how the voice works, you’ll also discover how children’s voices change when growing up, and how you can use this knowledge. Other subjects covered include Idiomatic Voice Technique (how to get singers to change their sound to fit the music); and Can one teach the “X-Factor”?: an exploration of to what extent it’s possible to teach the elements that appeal to audiences that lie outside conventional pedagogy.
About Stuart Barr

Stuart Barr is a musical director and singing coach with a very wide experience of working with choirs and solo artistes at international level. He is a former president of the British Voice Association, teaches at the Royal Academy of Music, and has been musical director to Dame Shirley Bassey since 2009. Alongside much private coaching work with his specialist area on idiomatic vocal technique, he has been a regular judge on Choir of the Year and many other choral competitions.

Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council on FRIDAY 6th and SATURDAY 7th November 2015 we have Carole Stennett visiting the college from London. Carole is a WestEnd performer/star and has played the role of Nala in the Westend and UK tour of The Lion King production, as well as Nicky in The Bodyguard along side Alexandra Burke.
Carole will be running a musical theatre masterclass on the morning of FRIDAY 6th November 2015 (9.30-12.30) and again on SATURDAY 7th from 10-2pm and we would like to invite your singers to take part in this FREE event.
Attendees should prepare a song to perform for Carole (and the other workshop attendees). She will lead a warm up and she will then feed back on their performance and spend some time with them working on technique, projection, technical exercises for vocal improvement, confidence and performance and staging etc. (approximately 20 mins per performer)
It will give students the opportunity to work along side a Westend star and experience the kind of performance platforms that happen at stage schools and within music courses.
If you have some potential stars of the future or any young performers that you feel would benefit and are interested in bringing some students along to this FREE event, please let me know and complete the attached application forms and send back to me ASAP.
