The Cornwall County Choirs, which are managed and delivered by the Cornwall Music Education Hub as part of our vocal strategy, are recruiting! These choirs operate across the whole county and offer a progression framework for young vocalists, with input by highly skilled vocal specialists and a varied repertoire.
Our choir ‘family’ is made up of
The Cornwall Boys Choir – Year 5 up to change of voice
The Cornwall Girls Choir – Year 5 upwards
The Cornwall County Youth Choir – a new choir for older singers
Joining the choirs
There is an annual membership fee of £80, payable in September each year, with reduction for members joining in January (subsidies are available for children on Free School Meals, Children in Care and Children of Services Families).
Membership for these choirs is through a simple audition process. We would like you to choose and then prepare one of the short pieces from the Set Pieces list on the CMEH website www.cornwallmusiceducationhub.org. Download your own copy and learn the piece well so that you can perform it from memory on the day. In addition, please select another short piece to sing of your own choice. This should also be sung without music, entirely from memory. This could be a Folk Song, a hymn or even something you really enjoy singing at school or in a singing lesson if you have them. If the song has a piano accompaniment please bring that along with you on the day.
If you have viewed the Set Pieces, and decided that you would like to apply for an audition, please contact Angela Renshaw by email: [email protected]. You will then be contacted with your audition time plus details on where to go on the audition day itself.
We will be holding auditions for ALL CHOIRS in the following venues at these times:
- Thursday 7th January 2016 from 4.30pm onwards at St Mewan Primary School, St Mewan Lane, Saint Austell PL26 7DP
- Tuesday 12th January 2016 from 4.00pm onwards at Camelford Primary School, Station Road, Camelford, PL32 9UE
