Cornwall Music Education Hub – Minority Instrument Bursary Scheme

The CMEH recognises that a range of musical instruments are needed to make up an orchestra but some instruments, known as ‘Minority Instruments’ or ‘Endangered Species’ are not as popular. As a result, it is often not possible for students to learn these particular instruments in a group lesson and individual lessons, which are more expensive, are the only option.

In order to encourage take-up of these instruments and to make them more accessible, the CMEH is offering a bursary programme for Minority Instruments. The bursary contributes towards the difference in fees between a group lesson and an individual lesson and is open to any young person who is currently learning or wishes to take up a Minority Instrument. There are 80 bursaries in total available for the academic year 2015/16 (for up to 34 lessons over the year). The Minority Instrument bursary only applies to the instruments listed below.

In order to qualify for the bursary, the lessons must be delivered by a provider listed as a ‘Registered Provider’ on the CMEH website - http://cornwallmusiceducationhub.org/musical-learning-tuition-progression/subsidised-lessons/. Applicants must attend an LA Maintained School (or former LA Maintained Academy) in Cornwall.
